Pharrell_Cara_ChanelWhen the news surfaced that Pharrell Williams and Cara Delevingne would star in a short film directed by Karl Lagerfeld, I knew I was in for a treat. Now, Chanel has released the teaser trailer for the film, titled “Reincarnation,” which will debut alongside its Métiers d’Art collection in Salzburg next week.

The film recounts an important moment in the fashion house’s history when founder Coco Chanel, after seeing the uniform of the elevator operator of the Austrian hotel where she vacationed in 1954, was inspired to design the now iconic Chanel jacket.

Pharrell_Cara_Chanel2It was time to show the origins of the Chanel jacket, inspired by the one worn by the lift attendant in a hotel near Salzburg in the 1950s,” says Lagerfeld. “Reincarnation is the story of a lift attendant’s jacket being reincarnated as a timeless piece of women’s wear.

Pharrell plays the elevator operator, who, in an extended dream sequence, is reincarnated as Franz Joseph I, the Emperor of Austria, while Cara Delevingne plays his wife, Empress Elisabeth “Sisi” of Austria – so “CC” isn’t just a reference to the Chanel logo 😉

Pharrell_Cara_Chanel3The forty-second clip features the bespoke track that Pharrell created for the project called CC the World – and if you listen closely you can hear Cara’s own voice chanting the ‘CC’ repeatedly.

Check out the trailer above:

The cast is quite large (and legendary): expect to see notable Chanel muses ranging from Geraldine Chaplin (daughter of Charlie) and Lady Amanda Harlech to 6-year-old Lagerfeld favorite Hudson Kroenig, who dances and sings as a miniature bellboy.

None of this would have been possible without Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne and Geraldine Chaplin,” adds Lagerfeld. “It’s the perfect cast. Pharrell is a genius and Geraldine at her best in the role of Gabrielle Chanel in the year of her comeback.”

A veritable fashion fairy tale and, like you, I can’t wait for the full film to be unveiled on Chanel’s website on Dec. 1.
