A still from Stuart Weitzman’s fall campaign with Kate Moss

We blame Kate Moss. Ever since she strutted her stuff in a pair of thigh-high grey suede boots for Stuart Weitzman’s viral video, thigh-high boots have been back on the trend map.

Fall / Winter 2013 Collections

For fall, the thigh-high boot dominated the runways. At nearly every show, suede and leather varieties appeared, making it clear that this tough — yet sexy — trend is here for good.

But as the street style set will dictate our fate, I’ve come up with a handy five point guide to maximise your thigh-high story:

  1.  Keep other accessories to a minimum
  2.  Wear with something feminine to avoid looking too dominatrix
  3.  Try a calf-length tunic dress so only a glimpse of the boot can be spotted through the side slit
  4.  Avoid gaping at the top of the boot. This can only lead to a look akin to pantomime favourite Puss in Boots
  5.  Go for quality leather to avoid any Pretty Women comments.
