john-galliano-portraitJohn Galliano‘s steadily been trying to piece his career back together after being fired with disgrace from the helm of Christian Dior. The designer has definitely been working, recently filling a residency in Oscar de la Renta‘s studio, assisting him on his Fall 2013 collection, which sparked rumors that Galliano was being groomed to take over the house in the designer’s stead. Since that fell through, the hunt has been on for a new gig, and according to WWD, the search has finally ended.

Oscar-de-la-renta-john-gallianoRussian perfumery L’Etoile announced today via its website, “John is back!” speaking of Mr. Galliano. The designer’s reportedly been tapped as the brand’s new creative director and will specifically play a part in building up its private-label cosmetics line. According to The Moscow Times, Galliano is to start May 22, although further details have yet to come to light.

Schermata 2014-05-15 alle 11.24.47Though widely revered for his sense of style, Galliano fell from grace in 2011 after he was caught on tape making antisemitic remarks and declaring his love for Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler at a Paris cafe. Galliano later apologized for the incident, for which he was fired from Christian Dior, and attributed the rant to drug abuse.

John-GallianoL’Etoile‘s parent company Alcor & Co is Russia’s largest cosmetics chain with about 850 branches —nearly four times more than nearest competitor Rive-Gauche, which has 224 stores.  In 2013, L’Etoile reported a revenue of 56 billion rubles ($1.61 billion), marking a 16 percent increase from the previous year, Kommersant reported, citing data from INFOline-analitika.
